The technique of hanging fabrics around walls and covering ceilings in a tent-like manner. Any shape of room can be tented for decoration, softness and sound deadening purposes, and as a great way of covering up a poor ceiling, or even temporary works.
This is an informal, loose look, and not the same as having upholstered walls and fully fitted ceiling covering, tented or not.
The ceiling fabric is usually pinned at the centre to fall to the sides in loose gathers that are then pinned to a batten running around the top of the walls; the wall fabrics hang like curtains from poles, hooks, bars and pegs that are set in front of the ceiling battens, and from which they hang loosely to the floor.
