Technically, over adornments to the point of frivolity. Yet frippery creates a light-hearted, temporal attitude that might well add the je ne sais quoi that is so often missing in too-perfect design schemes and too-matching colour schemes.
Feathers, trimmings, tiebacks, or just a new take on an old technique- what else could we use instead of matching piping, buttons or gimp, that would be a bit more fun, lighten it all up ?
Frippery might have attitude, create tension or develop a fashionable theme.
It is true though that just a little bit of frippery goes a long way.
