Refers to the Gossypium barbadense cotton species grown in Egypt. The combination of perfect climatic conditions and 5,000 years of hard work and experience has secured Egyptian cotton cloth’s international reputation for quality. The fine and longest of fibres are spun into smooth threads and woven to create a blemish free surface. On the weaving loom only the longest fibres make flaw free weaves.
Plain weaves depend on a smooth surface, as do damasks and such patterns woven on Jacquard looms – joining threads interrupt the pattern with the potential of knotting, loops or even runs, all are flaws.
The best sheets and under garments you can buy will be made of Egyptian cotton. However not all Egyptian cotton on the market is good -so the price is the key.
