A shaped wooden peg, also made of horn, bone, glass, silver, etc., used as a fastener. It is generally attached at the end of a cord, rope or chain to one side of an opening, and slotted through a looped counterpart or buttonhole on the other side. It is the typical closure for duffle coats, and used throughout interior furnishings to close cushions, chair covers, and even curtains; also to hold a loose filling inside a cover, as with a duvet or a comforter.
