An artificially manufactured fibre similar to rayon, spun from beech tree cellulose. Its popularity increases in line with the price of cotton, as modal weaves, dyes and handles like cotton but absorbs fifty per cent more moisture. It can be used on its own, and is improved by mixing with other fibres, such as the resilience of cotton, which helps the fabric hold its form and maintain a smooth surface.
