From the seafaring Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland, refers to the traditional warm knitwear, typically with a raised pattern in cable, diamond shapes and bobbles. It also refers to wool from the island’s own sheep, which comes in the favoured bleached, natural tones or indigo dyed yarns, but which is also available in pretty much any colour from a range of vegetable dyes.
