Agathe – Quilted Puffball lampshade

£5.00

This quilted lampshade is designed as an over-cover, to slip over a card shade, an existing shade or a new frame. It’s a useful idea for a seasonal change or for a new input of colour and form from a relatively low cost item. It’s also a fun project to make. It’s also a good one for a guest bedroom  and for dressing tables, where there is often more freedom for feminine furnishings.

Tiny coffee coloured knots smarten up a plain silk duppion in a classic white and coffee combination – cappuccino – it could look just as pretty in dusty pink, or gold, or pale ochre… Pre-embroidered silks and lace weaves also look good.

Description

Quilted puff ball lampshade.

This is a great shade to ring the changes, perhaps a shot of adrenaline for a new season.

Making it

This project is small enough to make on the kitchen table, the processes are uncomplicated and the instructions are clear.  Pick it up and put it down, take your time over it, and enjoy the process…..

A few stitches into the top ring of an existing card or framed shade will hold the slip cover in place temporarily. For a fully permanent cover, it’s fixed all around the top ring of a simple card shade or a traditionally lined frame.

The pdf contains: fabric suggestions; cutting dimensions; simple and precise instructions, with our tips, guides and watchpoints.

Fabric: this one is made with a crisp silk dupion from James Brindley – also available from Pongees or our own store. Silks work best for these quilted items; they need to have some crispness to the hand to hold themselves in place.

Level: confident amateur plus.
