Also called steatite, it is a metamorphic rock composed mostly of compacted talc–magnesium silicate–and comes in white-grey-green or soft browns with white strata. With a very high degree of resistance to heat, electricity and acids it is used for making table tops, hearths and work surfaces. Found in small locations across the globe, namely from Brazil, France, Italy, Turkey, Pakistan, India, Nepal and Australasia.
