An ethnic group living in the Nepalese foothills of the Himalayas, who are noted for their mountaineering skills. Their thick warm clothing and traditional way of life is an inspiration for comfortable furnishings.

Both men and women wear a long inner shirt over baggy trousers, under a coarse wrap-around robe, a bakhu, which reaches to just below the knees and fastens at the side. Their high woolen boots are dyed maroon, red, blue or green and have hide soles, they/that are tied around the calf. The women also wear multi coloured ‘aprons’ covering back and front and tied around the waist.
