An untanned sharkskin, ray skin, leather, or fabric that has been embossed, woven or printed to resemble the pebbled patterning and colouring of real shark skin; it is available in many colours from both a realistic and a high fashion palette.
The subtle colouring of real skin was favoured in Europe from the Middle Ages, and by Art Deco designers; it fits equally well into classical and contemporary schemes, on upholstered tables, chairs and screens, chests and small objects.
