A hand made needlepoint braid lace dating from 14thC. It is quite a heavy lace that can be worked into large pieces such as cloths or table from or motifs (floral, of butterflies, angels…) to be used in appliqué–these can be made singly or set into a worked surround and outlined by a crocheted braid, the inner pattern being worked with a needle.
