An early medieval (11-13thC) art and architectural style of western Europe, inspired by the Roman empire, and used by Scandinavian, Christian and Islamic traditions. Characterised by buildings with rounded arches and very deep stone walls, scrolling plants and expressive representations of the human and animal forms.
