A soft, lightweight plain weave dyed silk fabric originally made from raw silk, imported from China and the Far East to Europe in the 20thC.  It is still woven  across China, especially along the banks of the Yangtze  in Sichuan, Anhui, Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces. In lighter weight it is known as Paj. It’s good for lampshades and sheer floaty under curtains for dressing beds and for pleating into the canopies and testers.
