A soft, fine cotton with a small basket weave, made for and used almost exclusively as shirting fabric. It was first made by a Scottish mill, and is one of four cloths named after old and famous universities: Oxford cloth has stood the test of time and is still in use, though Cambridge, Harvard and Yale cloths have not.
