A type of piping. Piping is both purposeful and decorative, it serves to protect the edge and also to define the shape of the piece. Inset piping’s sole purpose is to add detail, producing a narrow, raised strip of colour or texture to bring another dimension.
Where piping is used between a main fabric and a border or a binding, i.e. inset, it provides a good key for the seam and is sometimes useful as a bridge between different weights and textures.
