A closure consisting of a small metal hook on one side, which fits into an embroidered loop, the eye, on the other side. Always stitched on the  inside and intended to be invisible, in couture it is used especially at the top of a zip and along the shoulder seam to keep underwear straps in place. In furnishings we would most often use the hook an eye closure  to close a loose cover seam,  to hold arm covers in place with minimum interference, or to fit slip covers onto lampshades.
