A single strand of synthetically extruded or naturally occuring fibre, from which  yarn, thread, woven and knitted textiles are made.

* Cultured silk is a filament fibre as it’s unreeled in a single length from the cocoon of the silk worm.

* Nylon and rayon are extruded filaments.

* Yarn is the spun agglomeration of filaments or fibres; fibres are all the raw materials that make up yarn; silk is the only one that can be described as both.
