Also known as tasar; it is the Sanskrit name for the wild silk from the cocoons of worms that feed on oak leaves and leave the cocoon before the silk thread is obtained, as opposed to seri-culture silk that is produced under controlled conditions, so that the thread is unwound in a long single filament.
