The unit of measure for fibres, accounting for the mass in grams per 9000 meters of strand. One denier is generally thought to be the weight of a single strand of silk. Now it is used to denote the thickness of stockings and tights: the lower number means a finer material.
Sometimes knitted textiles are given with their weight in denier.
